The ARINC 429 is one of the more avionic former bus.  Developed by the Aeronautical Radio INCORPORATION in 1977, it again is used on new platforms even if of other more recent bus more frequently are kept.  This is a bus of simple data using a single transmitting one and of 1 to 20 receivers by bus.  One rediscovers it notably in the Airbus A310/A320 and A330/A340, in the Boeings of the 727 to the 767 and in many other avionic systems such as the helicopters Bell.

The communication is one-way and for a communication bidirectionnelle between the systems, one uses two buses, an in every direction.  A bus ARINC 429 uses two sons to transmit a bipolar encodage with return to zero.  The words of 32 bits are separated by 4 bits time NULL, it does not there have therefore need of a 3rd wire for the clock signal.  The one-way used bus is called:  Digital Information Transfer System.  This is a twisted pair.  The bus ARINC 429 supporter two types of debit: a high-speed one of 100KBPS for the “high” given (1% of the data) and a weak varying debit between 12KBPS and 14.5 Kbps for the “low” given.

Level Liaison:  The data are transferred on the ARINC 429 buses series by words of 32 bits.  Every word is separated by an ‘inter-word holes’ of 4 bits (bit time).  We are here in the case of a liaison not at all to not at all, therefore the check system is also not at all to not at all.  Three protocols are defined in ARINC 429 for the numerical, discreet data or files.  The transfers of numerical or discreet data are carried out while using a field SAL (System Reference Label) unique to identify the contained data in every word.  The transfers of files of data are carried out by the protocol Bit oriented or Williamsburg.  In this protocol, the source initializes the communications while sending codes.

If a transfer Bit oriented is desired, the source will send the word code ‘ALO’.  If the receiver can receive the data, it replies with ‘ALR’.  In most of the cases, a message consists in a data word.  The label defines the type of data of the word.  The parity Bit allows verifying the validité of the transmission (while verifying that a bit did not lose itself).
